And The Whippoorwill Sang by Micki Peluso (On Sale for a Limited Time Only)

What a great blog post, what an amazing writer – and what a fantastic book. Read about it – you won’t regret, I promise.

Book Reviews by Pat Garcia

Micki Peluso, a writer and dear friend, out of the State of New York, wrote her first book after her daughter met her untimely death, which was caused by a drunken driver.  However, And The Whippoorwill Sang is more than a book detailing the loss surrounding the  suffering of her family and herself as a mother. It is a short chronicle of the golden age when women’s rights were still practically unacknowledged, and Gloria Steinem was slowly becoming a household word.  The book is witty and filled with wisdom; it is sad, and yet filled with joy.

I have read the book,  and I have re-read certain chapters several times because Micki has a way of putting words on paper that make you laugh even though you may want to cry.

And The Whippoorwill Sang is being offered at a reduced price this week. If you haven’t read it, it…

Author Spotlight: F. E. Feeley jr. – Book Release “Still Waters” today, March 30, 2015

Welcome!

  1. When did you start writing? Honestly, looking back, I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. From little bits of nothing really, to short story contest that I won during Halloween, and into my college career. Why it took me so long to pen a book, I’ll never know.

  1. What motivates you to write? The world around me. The things I see pass by me. The people I’ve met and fallen in and out of love with. Friends that I’ve had and still have. Life is the biggest muse.

  1. What genre do you write in and what made you chose this particular genre? I write in the m/m genre, or gay romance as some call it. However, Horror is my forte for the time being. I write about what scares me and right now, the world is a pretty intimidating place for gay people. I take modern issues, wrap them in things that go bump in the night, and have the reader consume it that way. Oddly enough, I think it’s easier to do that than to write a contemporary romance with similar themes.

  1. What is your goal in writing? Do you have dreams where your writing should take you? Oh God, honestly? I would like to make enough money to support my husband and I. I would like to pay off our house, pay off our student loans, and make a life for us. It’s a pipe dream, sure, but its still there.

  1. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and if yes, how do you deal with it? I do, on occasion. Some people write through it. I can’t. If there is nothing there, there is nothing there. The late great Robin Williams described being an artist to being attached to this stream of consciousness through a doorway. When that doorway is open, I write. When I don’t. I can’t.

  1. What advice would you like to give new, hopeful authors? Some would say write, some would say read and I am sure there is truth to both things, but I say watch. Observe the world around you. Take it in. And speak. Nina Simone said it is an artist’s responsibility to reflect the world around them. I take that responsibility pretty seriously.

  1. Please, tell us about your work. Well, right now I am immersed in writing a series entitled Memoirs of the Human Wraiths. These are stand-alone novels and they begin with The Haunting of Timber Manor, Objects in the Rearview Mirror, and the soon to be released Still Waters. Each book deals with a major theme. The first, is buried secrets. The Second, facing fear. And the Third, revenge. Where this series is going to go, I still am not sure. But we will see.

Outside of that, I have a novella being released through Cool Dudes press called Indigent which will be included in an anthology by the same name. That releases April 25th and it’s for a charity that will take donate all proceeds to homeless shelters in four countries, The United States, The United Kingdom, South Africa, and Australia in an effort to get LGBT kids off the streets.

Thank you for being my guest. It was such a pleasure to have you here!!

Synopsis:

Sometimes the hardest thing about lowering our defenses is the fear of how far we might fall.

That fear had been Adrienne Baxter’s driving force most of her life. It was far easier to hide behind her radio personality, feeding from her audience, than to risk exposure.

She had James, her brother by choice if not by blood. It was enough – most of the time.

As the co-host of the early morning breakfast show at Music 101, Adrienne is the confident, sassy presenter with the silver tongue and fast-talking wit.

When she meets Sebastian Davies, the station owner’s son, her carefully applied facade begins to slip. He presents a new kind of danger, because this time she could lose her heart.

Synopsis:

Tyler Davies was eighteen when he met the fiery beast he would later battle on a regular basis. Seduced by the beauty of her flaming touch, he had looked right into the heart of the fire and known she had claimed him.

It was the second time he’d seen his future. The first was the day he met Lilly-May Saunders, a girl who burned so bright he was blind to anyone else. If it hadn’t been for her friendship with his brother, a relationship he didn’t truly understand, he would have confessed his feelings. But when his friend dies in the line of duty, and Tyler discovers the truth behind the accident, everything changes. Those he loves are in danger, and the one who owns his heart is at the top of the list.

Winchester Brothers

Meet the characters:

As the series progresses, other characters will make an appearance, but for now I would like to share with you the main players, as it were.

Name: Adrienne Baxter

Nickname/s: Addy

Hair colour: Golden blonde

Eye colour: Brown

Career: Breakfast DJ

Behind the microphone, Adrienne is confident and vivacious. She has a strong connection to her listeners, and enjoys on-air banter with her co-host. She has a deep, smoky voice, and a larger than life personality people respond to.

She survived a fire as a teenager, which took the lives of her foster family – all except James Colby. Her brother, friend, and confidant. It was the first real home she had, and her earlier experiences make it difficult for her to open her heart. She met Tyler Davies on the day of the fire and hasn’t been able to shake him since!

Though head of the radio station, Simon Davies is more than a boss. He is someone she cares for deeply, one she trusts, and Adrienne credits him for helping her turn her life around.

Name: James Colby

Nickname/s: Jamie, Jay, Jay-man

Hair colour: Brown

Eye colour: Green

Career: Actor

James is the bad-boy of daytime television. He is Adrienne’s (foster) brother, and takes this responsibility seriously. She is his family, and he has sworn to protect her.

James has suffered a great deal of trauma in his life, and finds it difficult to foster relationships, though he is a charismatic person and people are drawn to him.

He is a loner, a man who enjoys his own company, though he never strays too far from his family. His only other real bond is with Tyler Davies.

Name: Simon Davies

Nickname/s: Mighty Davies

Hair colour: Dark brown (greying)

Eye colour: Blue

Career: Station owner – Music 101

Simon is a charismatic man, who contributes heavily to the community and takes on more responsibility than he should. He has three sons, and a daughter, though he classes Chris Martin, Adrienne Baxter, and Lilly-May Saunders as his own.

After suffering a heart attack, Simon was forced to slow his pace – a fact he only accepts because it brought his eldest son home. Now his family is complete again, he will do anything to keep them together.

Name: Veronica Davies

Nickname/s: V

Hair colour: Light brown

Eye colour: Blue

Career: Charity Event Planner

Veronica loves her children with a single-minded passion. She runs her kitchen in the same way, a fact which makes the kitchen a focal point in her home. Her son, Sebastian, shares her passion for food, something which influenced his best friend Chris Martin – the only person she allows free reign in her domain!

Veronica has a huge heart, and enjoys nothing more than taking care of her family. She has a strong connection to each of her children and, like Simon – this includes her expended family. She is involved in many community projects and has a full social calendar. So when she isn’t feeding her troops, she is organising events and raising money for charity.

Name: Sebastian Davies

Nickname/s: Seb

Hair colour: Black

Eye colour: Blue

Career: Restaurateur/Entrepreneur

Sebastian returned to Winchester after years of traveling the country, chasing the next big adventure. Having grown tired of his nomadic existence, he is looking for a fresh start – a way to reconnect with his family.

His business experience, and passion for the radio station, make him more than qualified to support his father. Sebastian considers the station part of his roots, and has many fond memories of hiding in the studio and learning the tricks of the trade.

He is familiar with the limelight, being somewhat of a local celebrity, but tries to lie low whenever possible. He is confident, capable, and inherited his drive from both parents. He is also competitive (as are the rest of the Davies’), intelligent, and enjoys to get his own way!

Name: Dylan Davies

Nickname/s: D

Hair colour: Black

Eye colour: Pale blue

Career: Architect

Dylan is fiercely independent, focused, and loyal to his family. He is skilled at whatever he turns his hand to, and enjoys to share the fruits of his labour. He is an outrageous flirt, and enjoys to play the clown. His closest friend, and sister by choice, Lilly-May Saunders, is the only one who can keep him in line (apart from his mother!)

Name: Tyler Davies

Nickname/s: Ty

Hair colour: Dark brown

Eye colour: Light blue

Career: Firefighter

Tyler inherited most of his personality traits from his father. He has a big heart, and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Tyler is seen as the sensible Davies brother, the one you can count on, the person everyone turns to when they are in a bind.

When he loves, he loves deeply, and finds it almost impossible to let go. He met Adrienne and James on one of his first jobs as a firefighter, and adopted them as his family.

He considers his role within the fire service a calling, and though he could have chosen any profession, he chose to fight fire.

Name: Chris Martin

Nickname/s: Christoff

Hair colour: Blonde

Eye colour: Green

Career: Restaurateur/Entrepreneur

Chris is happiest when he is in the kitchen, creating one of his masterpieces. He enjoys to feed people, a little too much, and sometimes forgets there is life outside the restaurant.

He is highly intelligent and runs the Winchester Brothers restaurants in the south. He also runs a chef training programme, and enjoys a teaching role.

Name: Lilly-May Saunders

Nickname/s: Lilly, Lill

Hair colour: Pale blonde

Eye colour: Green

Career: Co-owner – Café 101

Lilly-May Saunders is a strong, confident woman, with an independent streak as big as her best friend’s – Dylan Davies. She had a difficult childhood and lost her parents as a teenager. Since then she has been adopted by the Davies family and owes much of her success to them. At least that’s how she sees it.

She owns Café 101 with Sebastian, and recently extended the business to provide the addition of a bakery. She is a skilled pastry chef, and is committed to making the café a success. Lilly-May enjoys to keep busy, and often buries herself in her work.

Due to her earlier experiences, she has never been in a long-term relationship, and uses her friendship with Dylan as a safety net.

Her bond with Dylan was developed at a young age, and is based on a mutual respect and understanding. He is the brother she always wanted, and she enjoys his flirtatious nature. She sees the truth behind the clown!

Welcome to the “Writer’s Treasure Chest”

Welcome-2

A big welcome!

Please, let me thank the ones who are already following this blog, even though there had not been any formal introduction yet. I am going to catch up on this:

I am Aurora Jean Alexander, Author. As shown on the “About” page I am working on my first novel after writing short stories, poems and other creative pieces in the past. Hopefully I will be able to present a few pieces of my writing before the novel will be released.

I started to blog because I found in the past reading-years that so many excellent authors are out there. Maybe they aren’t famous and their names aren’t known, but I personally think their stories need to be told and are amazing. So many gifted authors should be introduced to the public and I plan to do whatever possible to make this spotlight wider.

This blog is supposed to become a meeting point to authors, writers, readers, reviewers and people who enjoy finding hidden treasures within the writing world.

Writer’s Treasure Chest is about books I found by chance and others that are introduced to me. I will publish and re-blog reviews if possible and will be part in as many blog tours as possible.

There will be interviews with featured authors and interesting blog posts of all kinds.

I will try to post about fascinating and helpful subjects and of course love to hear from as many people as possible to publish guest posts. (Please use the contact form on the top of the page or on the right side for interviews, blog tours, guest posts and feedback.)

As so many other bloggers I too encourage readers to comment and love reading them (preferably positive ones. *smirk*)  And of course I love to see as many of my blog posts being shared as often as possible. I have added different share-buttons like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Google and many more… You will make me happy using them.

And now only one more thing is left to say:

Welcome to the Writer’s Treasure Chest!

It is a pleasure to have you here!!
