…the day it rained money… and we couldn’t laugh…

Seumas Gallacher provided us with a wonderful and funny memory. Thanks for the giggle, Master Gallacher!! We appreciate you let us have a peek into your past.

Seumas Gallacher

…I s’pose yeez would’ve had to be there… but I’ve been giggling away all morning at the memory of it… come with me, back more than 50 years… picture the young Master Gallacher, newly minted apprentice at the redoubtable Clydesdale & North of Scotland Bank Limited, Govan Cross Branch in Docklands Govan in Glasgow… the freshest Trainee Master of the Financial Universe... the personnel in the branch were great guys… the Manager, Mister George Galloway, the epitome of the pin-striped Scottish Banker, defender of his clients’ pennies and bawbees… bowler hat and constantly furled umbrella as much a part of his uniform as his distinguished manner of addressing staff and customers alike… his number two, nominally adorned with the title, the Bank Accountant,MisterWilliam (call me Bill) Melvin, was a man with the detachable banker’s daily stiff white collar on his immaculately white shirts and…

Finding the Best Freelance Fiction Editor

Steven Capps has published an interesting and helpful blog post about editors and how to find them. Thanks so much Steven. This helps many of us.

Steven Capps

Welcome back to the blog! Before we begin, I want to highlight a few things that are not quite relevant to today’s post, which will be focused on how to hire a goodfreelance editor. If you are only here for that info, go ahead and scroll down. If you enjoy the content, I would love for you to hit the follow button just below the comment section. No pressure, and if this is the worst thing you’ve ever read, I’ll go sit in the corner of shame.

For everyone still reading this intro, I am assuming that you are one of the regulars, so thank you again for all your support. A few weeks ago, I posted a few episodes of a podcast, though it pittered out because in the subsequent interviews there was a super annoying static that I only recently fixed. Obviously, I couldn’t post these because…

Some Gave All

I knew a man, called him Sandy Cane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero, yes was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don’t understand
About the reasons we are free
I can’t forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cried

As he said these words to me

All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some Gave All

Now Sandy Cane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo throughout our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood their ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man
Love your country and live with pride
And don’t forget those who died
America can’t you see?

All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some Gave All

And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Yes recall
Some Gave All
Some Gave All

Poetry Reading – “Let Your Soul Fly Free To Heaven”

November 7, 2016, in a phase of deepest sadness and depression, I wrote and published a poem, “Let Your Soul Fly Free To Heaven”.

Until this day I’m very much convinced that this is probably the rhythmically best poem I ever wrote, and even though, its theme is heartbreak and sadness, I’m still proud of it. That’s why I submitted this poem to the Poetry Festival Page and had it read by a professional actor.

Today I was informed that the poetry reading had been published on their Website. I immediately clicked the link and found it, together with some information about myself.

“Let Your Soul Fry Free To Heaven” is performed by actress Becky Shrimpton and she does a fabulous job. Thank you very much, Becky! And thank you to “Wildsound Fest” who published it on their YouTube channel.

Fashion For Characters III

This is the third time I venture to lay hands on fashion for our characters. In my first blog post I dared to talk about the difference between some Historical Romance book covers and the truth; in my second post I showed some past and maybe current and future fashion in the Science Fiction genre.

Right now I decided to peek into ‘my own’ genre, Paranormal Romance. It took me a while to find out what genre I write in. According to Wikipedia, Paranormal Romance means, I write about “Supernatural behavior, abilities, and creatures in our current existing world’. I think this covers it pretty much. I’m sure there are similar or other explanations, telling us more or less the same thing. But this is right. At least that’s what I do.

Let’s take the existing world, mixed with ‘supernatural abilities and creatures.’ These creatures might be all kinds of characters, from trolls to orcs, to fairies, ghosts or even, as I introduced you to: shadows like Rapha Golden, demons, like Ethel, or even this one, unique and mysterious humanoid beautiful ‘Simin Arnatt.’

Let me pick Simin as an example. Simin is mysterious. She holds many secrets, and I am not the one to reveal them, except one: Simin is no spoiled princess. She’s a warrior, a fighter, even a hunter, and exceptionally good at what she does. That’s why, during her work, I dress her into something like this:

Of course, Simin is a business woman as well, after all, she’s a freelancer in… – never mind. But occasionally she meets clients, agencies or her lawyer. In such a case she has been seen wearing similar outfits like the ones here:

Simin has the right to be on vacation like other people as well. For these occasions, she has outfits for summer…

and winter.

Simin is a unique person, in more than one way. Her life is adventurous and at times dangerous. And still… she’s everywhere and nowhere. She hasn’t known a home for a long, very long time. Her wardrobe is limited. But this doesn’t mean she has no taste or is not fashionable. But I promise, one day, you will find out more about her.

What would you dress your paranormal romance characters in? Do you have published a book in this genre already or are writing one? What are your characters wearing? Please let us know in the comments below.

Welcome!

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Kimberly Forrest and I am an independently published author of paranormal romance.

  1. When did you start writing?

I started writing in my early teens; mostly short stories that I would occasionally share with my best friends.  Later, I started writing fan-fiction for shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed.  I wrote my first full length novel with intention to publish in 2002.  It was a historical romance that I sent out to every publishing house I could find that accepted the genre and received a stack of rejection letters in return. My work wasn’t “competitive enough” or “not the right fit”… So I set it aside and moved on with my life.  When self-publishing became a thing, I decided to go ahead and try it.  I published the novel, but because of my busy schedule, I really didn’t have the time, or frankly, the knowledge to properly promote or market the book, so it just sat there.  Which brings us to 2016… I had a great idea for a book and my muse wouldn’t leave me alone.  I was determined to write it, publish it, and this time, DO something to promote it.  I just released the third book in the series and while my sales numbers aren’t huge, I’m not going to give up.  I try different things, I learn a little more, I keep writing.

  1. What motivates you to write?

My muse is a nag… seriously, she won’t let me sleep.  I have to write.

  1. What genre do you write in and what made you chose this particular genre?

Currently I write paranormal romance.  I have always been fascinated with the genre – books, movies, television shows.  I like a dependable hero, a strong (yet still sweet) heroine, and a happily ever after within the shadows of a secret world.

  1. What is your goal in writing? Do you have dreams where your writing should take you?

My current goal is for my writing to find its target audience.  I want my books in the hands of people who will love reading my work as much as I love writing it.

As for my dream… Well, Best Seller List, of course 🙂

  1. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and if yes, how do you deal with it?

After I wrote my historical romance and received so many rejections… well, that kind of killed my creative energy.  I dwelled on it – I was fixating.  I needed to step away.  I stepped away for way too long.  Currently, if I get blocked, I still step away, but with a plan – I take a weekend off to read a good book (or two), watch movies on Netflix, clear my head and then I plant myself back in front of my computer come Monday morning even if it’s just to read through what I’ve already written and make changes.

  1. What advice would you like to give new, hopeful authors?

My advice would be to keep writing.  When you’re not writing, be thinking about what you might write the next day.  Pay attention to constructive criticism only.  Do Not Listen to negative feedback.  Never change your voice to please that one person.  Be happy with what you are doing and do it for that reason only – it’s the only reason that matters.

  1. Please, tell us about your work.

I just released the third book in the Malsum Pass series, entitled For Her, on Amazon.  Each book within the series is a standalone paranormal romance but I feel they are best enjoyed if they are read in order.  The series revolves around a shifter town hidden away in the mountains of Vermont… A wolf pack in desperate need of females, a cranky bear shifter that wants to be left alone, and a couple of runaway felines looking for a fresh start.  I love these books.  I love these characters.  I have so many plans for them and I know this series will continue.

Thank you for being my guest. It was such a pleasure to have you here!!

Mother’s Day – May 14, 2017

There are so many unique women out there! So many of my friends, readers and followers are wonderful, amazing Mom’s!

For May 14, 2017, Mother’s Day, I wish you ALL:

This is a special day for ALL Moms!!

Seriously… I too occasionally was told by some people: You can’t celebrate Mother’s Day. You’ve never been a Mom. – But of course, I am a Mom! Maybe I never had to change diapers; maybe I never will have to pay for bicycles, car driving, school money and prom clothes.

But I CARE for my babies, as much as every other Mom does. I take them to the doctor to get their vaccines and take them when they’re sick. I make sure they’ve got healthy food, plenty of vitamins, shelter, something to drink and clean whereabouts. I brush them, when it’s necessary and make sure they’ve got good hair and nails. I take them to clean their teeth and keep themselves clean. I LOVE and PROTECT them!! And just because I don’t have to buy them clothes and shoes, and they’ve got tails and four paws, doesn’t mean they’re not my babies.
