Fashion For Characters II

In my blog post ‘Fashion For Characters I’ I showed the difference between certain book covers of ‘Historical Romance’ books and the ‘reality.’

This time I decided to talk about how to dress ‘Science Fiction’ characters.

I have to admit; I can only talk about what I would dress them into, rather than what I do make them wear because Science Fiction is not my genre. Science Fiction is probably the perfect genre to read for technics and computer lovers, Star Trek, Star Wars and Star-whatever’ fans, which I’m deeply ashamed to admit I’m not.

But let’s see if I still can endeavor to find something decent to wear for these characters. At this moment I depend on what I remember. When I was little my Dad loved to watch the old Star Trek show, and I find their ladies fashion irresistible and I cannot and will not deprive you of seeing what people back then considered decent fashion for female Science Fiction characters:

Nowadays I figure our imagination of a Science Fiction Princess on a formal event might more be dressed in something like this:

Or if there is a technical computer war in some space ship, we could dress her in this?

Or do we like it a little sexier? Maybe this would be more (in)appropriate for our story?

Right here, I preferred dressing ladies in my imagination of Science Fiction characters. I would be very curious what kind of ideas you would come up with. I’m a woman “dressing” women. But what would a male writer do in such a case? Aren’t mainly men writing Science Fiction after all, or am I very wrong with this guess?

Let me hear what you think.

An Elegant Gentleman – A Riddle

________________________________________________________________________

He’s an elegant fella, with a great fashion sense,

he wears timeless colors with pride, never tense.

White is his shirt, and there on his back

he carries a tailcoat in shiniest black.

**

Let’s have a look at his elegant wife

they love each other despite their hard life.

They live in a world with no roads and no street

The lady gives life to her brood on her feet.

**

Their world is so cold, where air freezes breath

everyone going will inevitably meet death.

And still, they found a way to survive

give birth and feed, walk, slide, swim and dive.

**

Their existence is hard and is constant danger

and to us it couldn’t be any stranger.

But to them, it’s normal, to walk, slide and try

to survive by swimming because they can’t fly.

**

Six different ones are living on ice

the same hard life in misery, not nice.

And still our fella is happy in his elegant dress

He’s a penguin – right. Did you guess?

Nature’s Playful Colors

It’s a beautiful time, it’s spring, it’s May

Warm wind has blown the clouds away.

Mother Nature shows her gift

the word to paint, the moods to lift.

**

Her meadows and heathens, oh we are keen

seeing them radiate in healthiest green;

sometimes we see, like their lilac head cower

the delicate bloom of a cuckoo-flower.

**

Nature reflects the sunbeam’s mellow

by coloring the daffodil in most luscious yellow.

Tulips are blooming in pink, red and white

in sunshine, and purple it’s a beautiful sight!

**

The pink and white lyre-flower catches our eye

Forget-me-not and lilies-of-the-valley seem to bloom shy.

The strong red of the corn poppy, it seems to sing

while there are so many colors of peony dancing the swing.

**

Nature provides us with the most beautiful range

of colors to enjoy, to impress, to accept, but not change.

It’s spring time, energy, happiness, vivid life and a smile

given by nature, with talent, with grace, and most, with style.
