The Council Of Twelve Series – Picking Fashion For My Male Characters I

Today I decided to dress my Council Of Twelve.

The Council of Twelve series has four books out now. And my male characters are are group of the most powerful and very handsome characters, belonging to the oldest and strongest individuals in existence.

Teddy, our designer, who I published an interview with, a while ago, (you can read it here), of course does not only dress the Consorts of the Council of Twelve, but has dressed the Council members millennia longer. Of course, with the time, the fashion sense, trends and even the fighting methods changed, and Teddy, who is very resilient, has grown with those changes and developed.

I’m therefore showing you mainly examples of some of the work Teddy could have created. We’re talking about a designer, millennia old, who integrates tradition into the modern world – and dresses the Council members in a mixture of timeless – and timely outfits, depending on the necessary occasion.

Of course, our Council Members have to fight. They fight in battles, they fight against the evil side, the fight against their opponents, demons and demon minions, some of which are dangerous and extremely poisonous, by biting, clawing, even oozing poison through their skin. And the Council members have to be protected. I can easily imagine, some of them showing up on the battle field in part armor, or even entire body armors like these:

Or maybe even one of these old-fashioned, but extremely impressive armors they used to wear millennia ago:

Nowadays our Council members have no problems in showing up semi-formal to negotiations,.

In ‘Soul Taker’, I dressed Raphael in ‘Cowboy’ attire, just because he liked it, before he met his consort, Katie:

Of course, if the event demands formal attire, we can find each of the Council Members dressed in modern formal suit and tie, or even blazer, smoking and bow tie.

Teddy is a wise man, and a designer with an excellent taste. He doesn’t have any problem to let ‘formal attire’ be, and as a close friend to the ‘Council Members’, hang out with his friends to a game of cards, all of them in a relaxing sweat pants, shorts and t-shirts. Each of the Council members owns a couple pairs of jeans. With them being ever so modest, they don’t use an extended wardrobe, just like their consorts. And Teddy is not overly busy working for their clothing.

There is just one thing that, even the most classic of all Council Members, Santanael, is considering to mothball: The traditional snow white ‘night gown’, as the consorts call it… or, as it’s named in professional circles: ‘The Robe’.

The Oscars 2021 – Fashion Post

For understandable reasons this years’ Oscars were different from the ones in past years. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the show, but heard from others they loved it.

I admit, while watching the Oscars this year I got a it bored and considered to leap my fashion post this year… but then I coudn’t resist.

However I decided to keep it short. Of course, there were a few nicely dressed and wonderfully styled beaming celebrity ladies. Let’s have a look at Margot Robbie, Zendaya, Amanda Seyfried, Viola Davis and Angela Bassett. Breathtaking! These are classy, stylish ladies, working hard to show us a formal look as we all hope for watching an event like the Oscars.

Of course, I’m convinced that many will name at least half a dozen people I ‘forgot’. But believe me, I didn’t. I just picked the ones that were most remarkable to me.

At this point I have to mention a wonderful actress beautiful and radiant, who I always considered to be unable to pick a wrong dress and can carry any haircut she wants and always will look amazing. Tonight I felt disabused. I’m so sorry, Halle Berry, but really? In my opinion your dress looked like a badly wrapped baby-shower-present, and that bob with the fringy too short bangs ruins your gorgeous face.

This paragraph now is dedicated to a few celebrities I consider understyled or underdressed. Elizabeth Keenan, Kaouther Ben Hania, and Mollye Asher. I’m sorry, but I think, that’s not enough for an Oscar event. Even if the event has been slimmed down, that doesn’t mean your styling needs to do the same.

Last but not least, my personal no-no! Please, Frances McDormand, you are such a phenomenal actress, you got the proof once again tonight! But your non-styling looks like you didn’t think it was worth dressing up for ‘that’.

Brad Pitt… a man bun to the Oscars? Sorry, as much as I like you as an actor, tonight it seemed you forgot to get ready on time and just threw something on and bound your unwashed hair… no-no.

Massive Fashion faux-pas, here we go.

Celeste Waite. To me that dress is already a mishap, but in combination with that clutch it’s a no-go.
In my opinion Andra Day didn’t wear a dress, but a few fabric panels irregularly sewn together, to only barely cover the most necessary spots. I think it looks cheap and tacky.
I’m so sorry, Laura Dern. I think you could have done better! That dress looks like you wore an exploded duvet…
Chloe Zhao. Congratulations to your Oscar! Well done! Unfortunately, I think, not so well done with your dress and non-styling. To me, the dress doesn’t do anything for your figure. In combination with those pigtails and the sneakers, I think it looks unflattering and even sloppy.

I hope you had fun with my fashion critics and had the chance to chuckle a bit. Have a great week.

Author Spotlight – Amanda Forry-Fino

1.            When did you start writing?

Since I was thirteen years old and homeschooled, my writing has been one of my forms of relief. When I self-published my first book when I was 23, everything fell together.

2.            What motivates you to write?

Throughout my life, many people have asked me to write about my life, as well as how I coped with my Cerebral Palsy and conquered it. To me, having CP means that I have to overcome it each day. Writing it was very challenging for me because I knew I never wanted to return to what I had experienced in my past. I was also inspired because I would like to see people without disabilities treat people with disabilities like them.

other than that…

Because of Cerebral Palsy, I have a speech impairment, which is why I write. It’s my way of expressing myself.

3.            What genre do you write in and what made you chose this particular genre?

I tend to write in the romance genre. I always have been a hopeless romantic daydreamer when I was younger but now I’m older, adding true crime, forbidden love to my romantic storyline mix. Hey, who says that evil bad guy doesn’t have soul-mates. LOL

4.            What is your goal in writing? Do you have dreams where your writing should take you?

When I started out, my goal was to become a best-selling author with movies and TV shows based on my work. Life had happened and I decided to go and became a Certified Disability Self Advocate,  I’m trying my best to become one of the voices of those who, through disability, cannot speak for themselves. I am not out for myself; I’m out for that friend who went into an institution for life because of her CP. And that friend who can’t talk or walk, who uses a wheelchair and his iPad to communicate. I hope to make a positive impact through my new book “Living Strong With Cerebral Palsy,” and continue writing under a pseudonym, Sasha Fino- “Getting My Sexy On.”

5.            Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and if yes, how do you deal with it?

Several years ago, I suffered from writer’s block. I dropped the ball with my pen name of Alexandra Forry. During that time, I was in a dark place. Yet, I met another author, and with their help, I wrote ‘Blue Bell’ and published it.

6.            What advice would you like to give new, hopeful authors?

There is a sorry inside of you. Don’t let anyone stop you from writing. Nothing or no one ever gets in your way to publishing your book.

7.            Please, tell us about your work.

In total, there are eight books that I have written, Living Strong with Cerebral Palsy and Cerebral Palsy Gal, my first attempt at a children’s book by me, Amanda. Under my pseudonym, Sasha Fino, Omerta: Journey to the Past, Kingpin, My Vega Confessions, Sedona’s Heart, and Blue Bell; a Dark Academy Romance. One is a short story in Witchy Wonders anthology that was out for a limited time. Each book is special to me for different reasons, so I can’t choose my favorite.

Thank you for being my guest. It was such a pleasure to have you here!!

No thank you for having me here!

Amazon Changing File Requirements for KDP Ebooks – Written By New Shelves

Many of you have recently received emails from Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) announcing that Amazon is changing file requirements for KDP ebooks. As often happens with change, there is some confusion about how this will change how authors and publishers will upload their ebooks to KDP leading to questions and concerns.

From https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G200634390:

“After June 28, 2021, we will no longer support MOBI files when publishing new or updating previously published reflowable ebooks. Instead, use EPUB, DOCX or KPF formats, see our Frequently Asked Questions for more information. MOBI files are still accepted for fixed-layout ebooks.”

What Does That Mean, Exactly?

A writer comes home to a burned down house. His sobbing and slightly-singed wife is standing outside. “What happened, honey?” the man asks.

“Oh, John, it was terrible,” she weeps. “I was cooking, the phone rang. It was your agent. Because I was on the phone, I didn’t notice the stove was on fire. It went up in second. Everything is gone. I nearly didn’t make it out of the house. Poor Fluffy is–”

The Fault in Our Reviews – Written By Deborah Grant-Dudley

Deborah Grant-Dudley informs us about the review rules on Amazon. It is hard to get reviews on Amazon, particularly for us Indie Authors. Deborah tells us why. Thank you very much.

How to avoid having your book review deleted

Indie authors rely on book reviews to help sell their books. But Amazon are notoriously strict about reviews. They frequently decline new reviews and delete existing reviews. If you want to help an indie author, it’s important to stay in Amazon’s good books. Yes, I went there!

Here’s a handy guide to writing reviews that will be accepted. Be aware other bookstores have their own guidelines. I’ve focused on Amazon as they are the biggest bookseller, and they sell lots of indie books.

Check you allowed to review the book

Amazon has a minimum spend threshold you must meet before you can leave a review. Currently, that’s £40 in the UK and $50 in the US. You must have spent at least that amount in the past 12 months. If you meet this criteria, you can review a book on their website.
