What is your e-reading device of choice?
I’m reading on a Kindle Paperwhite

Describe your desk
I have a computer desk with a laptop and an extra monitor, a multifunctional printer device and books, papers, paper sketchbooks and pens, pens, pens.

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My upbringing does not have any influence on my writing. I’m writing fantasy and paranormal romance.

When did you first start writing?
I’m not sure there ever was “a start”. I learned to write at the age of four and I remember developing little stories since I’m a Kindergarten kid. In school, when others complained about essays, mine were easily 6 – 10 pages long, I enjoyed it so much.

Author Spotlight – Ann Simas

  1. When did you start writing?

Believe it or not, I started writing my first book on a typewriter a long time ago. Talk about a slow process! That manuscript is still on the shelf in typewritten form. Sometimes, I think about going through it and finally getting it in digital format, but I have so many other books in the queue to write, it stays on the back burner. In the early-to-mid-90s, I wrote three more books on my new computer. I sold my first book, a novella, to Harlequin/Worldwide in 1993 and it was published in 1994. During all those years, I had a family at home and worked fulltime, so I didn’t have consistent writing time until 2012, when I no longer had a day job. At that time, I had several books in various stages of completion, so I tackled them one-by-one, beginning with Chloe’s Spirit.

2. What motivates you to write?

Back in the days when you could have a screensaver on your monitor, mine said, “Writing is an uncontrollable obsession.” For me, it really is. My mind never shuts down, so I suppose you could say that contributes to my need to write. I love writing and I feel compelled to put down the words that will make the books. I have dozens of ideas for books that I still haven’t gotten to. At the moment, I have 29 books in print, 1 novella, and 1 short-story collection, and those only scratch the surface of what I hope to write before I no longer can!

3. What genre do you write in and what made you chose this particular genre?

With the exception of my Christmas Valley Romances, I write cross-genre books: mystery-thriller-suspense with a love story and usually paranormal or supernatural elements. Like most authors, I write what I love to read. I also love doing research, so I look for intriguing and interesting elements to introduce into my stories. With every book I write, I learn something new, and that new knowledge is something I’m able to pass along as part of my story. I want to ensure that my readers keep turning those pages, intrigued and excited about what will happen next.

4. What is your goal in writing? Do you have dreams where your writing should take you?

I have one goal when I write, to entertain readers. Along with that, I want to keep them guessing, and to ensure that they’ll be anxious to move on to one of my other books. I’ve always dreamed of being a published author and I’ve achieved that. As far as where my dreams take me in writing? My imagination has no limits. I can go anywhere and write anything. As long as readers are enjoying my words, being enthralled by them, I’m happy.

5. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block, and if yes, how do you deal with it?

I have to say that I’ve never suffered from writer’s block. That’s not to say that I’m not stumped sometimes about which direction I should take a story, but generally, that works itself out in a day or so. Honestly, I don’t understand writer’s block. I know some writers lament that they have it, but when I’m temporarily stumped, I just keep writing, either on the book I’m working on, or one of the other books I have started. My mom always use to say, “If you don’t get something you want, it’s because something better is coming along.” I feel that applies to writing, too. I no longer plot out an entire book before I start writing. Instead, I know where the book will start and how it will end up, but I’m flexible on all points in between. That said, I’m also flexible on an entirely different ending than I had envisioned in the beginning. For me, this method works, and always for the better.

6. What advice would you like to give new, hopeful authors?

Best-selling author Cynthia Freeman, who began writing late in her life, once said (and I paraphrase), “Don’t let the fear of failure keep you from the thrill of trying.” If you want to write, write. It’s as simple as that.

7. Please, tell us about your work.

I write three series, Grace Gabbiano Mysteries, Andi Comstock Supernatural Mysteries, and Christmas Valley Romances. My Grace books now number 5, with another to be released in July 2020. The Andi books stand at 4, with a new release scheduled for release in October 2020. The Christmas romances number 8, with two new titles coming out on November 15.

In addition, I have two short series, Chloe’s Spirit and Chloe’s Spirit Afterstories and First Star and First Star Afterstories. Chloe’s Spirit and First Star were both Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Finalists. I currently have five stand-alone books in print, as well, with another due out in May 2020. One of my stand-alones, Blessed Are the Eagles, was also an RWA Golden Heart Finalist. All my books are available worldwide from Amazon in both ebook and paperback format, and all are enrolled in Kindle Unlimited.

Thank you for having you as my guest.

About the Book

Living under the tyranny of the Galvadi Empire is torture, but Auren is determined to end the nightmare, regardless of the cost to herself.

Auren is once again a prisoner of the Galvadi on Nadiria, or at least that she wants Emperor Zavix to believe. It’s the only way to get close enough to him to kill him and then take control of the people.

To succeed in her mission, she must push her new power to the limit, but the more she uses her it, the more addictive it becomes. Unfortunately, stopping is not an option, but if she can focus on her goals, maybe she won’t lose herself.

Soul Taker Got Its Third 5-Star Review

I’m very excited to let you all know that ‘Soul Taker’, the first book in ‘The Council Of Twelve’ series, got its third 5-star review. This is wonderful, I’m literally bouncing through my day.

Nice Debut!

New author A.J. Alexander excites us with her debut novella Soul Taker. Kate is an angel of death, taking the soul into the afterlife. After a job that went bad Kate wants to call it quits. Her request is granted in that she is now a Guardian angel and will learn under the tutelage of the great charming, and alluring Archangel Raphael. While Kate is being trained to be a Guardian demons attack kidnapping Kate. She has something they want. After her rescue by the Council of Twelve, we learn Kate does not have something hell and Lucifer want she IS what they want. You have to read the rest of the book to find out why.

Soul Taker is nicely written. Alexander pulls you into her world that is warm and welcoming. The characters are well written. Kate is written with a large innocence and vulnerability, yet it is also her strength as well. Lucifer is luxurious and I love him and Kate’s banter. This book is to be a series and it’s a nice beginning. Alexander is on my radar and will be interested in what else this series brings.

Welcome!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

1. When did you start writing?
After my late wife died in 2007

2. What motivates you to write?
I get pleasure from writing and hope that readers enjoy reading my books

3. What genre do you write in and what made you chose this particular genre?
I write in both fiction and non-fiction. By doing so I get the best of both worlds related to writing

4. What is your goal in writing? Do you have dreams where your writing should take you?
I like to think that I have what it takes to write a best seller, and that one of my books will be used as the basis for a film or television series.

5. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and if yes, how do you deal with it?
No

6. What advice would you like to give new, hopeful authors?
When you’re writing and get stuck on how to proceed, take a break. Leave your writing then go back to it the next day with a clear head. Also, once you have completed your work, it is essential that you have it professionally edited. Don’t think for a minute that as you have used an online editing program it is not worth the cost. If you do, most likely you will be disappointed at what readers say when they read what you wrote.

7. Please, tell us about your work.
I have written and self-published seven books. I did pay for my memoir Follow in the Tigerman’s Footsteps to be published by a company I thought good. I found out to my cost it was a big mistake. This company is now listed as one not to use. As is over twelve other sites connected to them. Four of my books are now available as audiobooks, a fifth will be shortly, and my novel A Dangerous Love Affair now in the process of being made into an audiobook. In conjunction with Voyage Media, based on my memoir, I wrote a pilot episode for what they think could be used as a television series. I also write poems with several in the final four in competitions. One was made into a film.

Thank you for being my guest. It was such a pleasure to have you here!!

Colin Guest Bio:

As an expat who worked in fifteen countries spread through the Middle, Far East and North Africa, Colin Guest has lived a life most only dream. He has self-published seven books. Two have been made into Audiobooks, with three more due to be completed early 2019.
A number of Colin’s articles have been published in online magazines and one in a UK expat magazine. A local newspaper in Colin’s hometown in England published an article about him. In conjunction with Voyage Media, Colin prepared a pilot episode based on his memoir that they think could be suitable for a television series. Colin has taken part in several online interviwes and once took part in a live online American radio show. Colin uses his website http://www.colinguestauthor and various social media accounts to help publise his books.

Soul Taker On The ‘When Angels Fly’-Blog

This week I’m a guest on the ‘When Angels Fly’-Blog. Thank you so much for the great interview and the wonderful way you presented ‘Soul Taker’! I can’t thank you enough!

The post contains an interview, a book excerpt, the book description, the book links, and my social media links.

This week, we are pleased to feature on our blog, Aurora Jean Alexander, author of Soul Taker. Aurora – this blog is yours for now.

When did you start writing and how did that come about?
I doubt I can tell you one particular time or even time frame when I started writing. I felt that’s what I wanted to do. Since I lack a talent in painting and drawing I had to do something with my creativity and decided that’s the way to do it.
I’m not sure there ever was “a start”. I learned to write at the age of four and I remember developing little stories since I’m a Kindergarten kid. In school, when others complained about essays, mine were easily 6 – 10 pages long, I enjoyed it so much.

Tell us about you, what you want readers to know.

Author Spotlight – D. E. Haggerty

author-photo-2016Welcome!

Please introduce yourself.

I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although I did manage, every once in a while, to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But being a lawyer really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out being a B&B owner wasn’t my thing either. I decided to follow the husband to Istanbul for a few years where I managed to churn out book after book. But ten years was too many to stay away from ‘home’. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

  1. When did you start writing?

I can’t actually remember a time I didn’t write. I even remember writing stories in a notebook on the yellow school bus on the way to elementary school. Although I had to stop writing stories for a while when life just got too busy, I always kept reading (even if I had to sneak a book into my Army rucksack) and making up stories in my head.

  1. What motivates you to write?

I love making up stories. Seriously, I am always thinking up a story. If I’m out to eat, I’ll spend half the time coming up with background stories for the other dinners. Obviously, I need help.

  1. What genre do you write in and what made you chose this particular genre?

I actually write in a few genres. The majority of my books are cozy mysteries, but I write romantic comedies as well. I’ve also written a military suspense novel and an historical novel. No matter what genre you categorize my books in, there’s always some romance in there somewhere and a bit of a mystery as well. I’m completely and utterly fascinated with the world. I’ve studied everything from history to law to international relations to environmental studies to nutritional counseling. I guess you could say this ‘fascination’ is reflected in the range of genres in which I write. You could also just say I’m crazy. You wouldn’t be the first.

  1. What is your goal in writing? Do you have dreams where your writing should take you?

I’m super-duper lucky that I can write full-time even though I don’t actually make enough money off my books to support myself. It would be completely and totally awesome if I could earn sufficient royalties to actually support myself, although then I’d have to curb my one-click addiction.

  1. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and if yes, how do you deal with it?

Everyone suffers from writer’s block. If they say they don’t, they lie! There’s really only one solution to writer’s block – Just. Keep. Writing. It doesn’t have to be on your work in progress, but write something, anything! A blog article, an outline for a new book idea, it doesn’t matter. Just do it.

  1. What advice would you like to give new, hopeful authors?

Do not expect miracles. Sure, there are those rare and beautiful creatures who have an international bestseller with their first novel but that’s the exception and not the rule. Most of the writers I know write as a hobby because they need to support themselves. It’s also important to realize being an author is not only about writing. Whether you’re self-published or not, you need to do a lot of marketing and networking yourself. Be prepared for the reality that is being an author in today’s world.

  1. Please, tell us about your work.

I just released a bundle of my second cozy mystery series, Death by Cupcake. The bundle contains the three books in the series: Never Trust a Skinny Cupcake Baker, Bring Your Own Baker, and Self-Serve Murder. The novels take place at Callie’s Cakes, a cupcake bakery owned by the heroine of Never Trust A Skinny Cupcake Baker. Each novel contains a serving of mystery with a side of romance and a sprinkling of laughs. Cupcakes are not included.

Thank you for being my guest. It was such a pleasure to have you here!!

Synopsis Bring Your Own Baker:

Anna just wants to earn enough money on the side to buy into the bakery, Callie’s Cakes, where she works together with her best nerd pal Callie. The last thing she expects to see when she walks into Arthur’s apartment to do some moonlighting is a blood bath. Callie’s ready to jump into the investigation into Arthur’s murder, and she’s bringing another bakery worker, Kristie, into their hijinks whether Kristie wants to or not. But things aren’t as they seem. There are gang affiliations, illegal gambling dens, and ladies of the night to wade through. Will Anna and Callie discover who murdered Arthur or will Callie’s detective boyfriend and Anna’s self-appointed protector put a stop to such aspirations?

Come join us at Callie’s Cakes, where murder investigations are on the menu, but make sure to bring your own baker, because Anna’s a bit preoccupied at the moment.

Warning: This is NOT your mom’s cozy mystery. Bring Your Own Baker may be a ‘clean’ read, but if gangs, illegal gambling, and pimps make you turn your nose up at your e-reader, you might want to skip this one. Although you’ll be missing some sizzling chemistry between Anna and her protector. Not to mention a whole bunch of witty dialogue.

Synopsis Self-Serve Murder:

Kristie is kind with a capital K, so it’s quite the surprise when she wakes up next to a dead man with no recollection of the previous night. Even worse? She’s naked. Kristie may be a sweetheart out to save the world, but sticking her nose into an investigation of rapes across campus makes her the target of a murderer. Before she knows it, Kristie is smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation with her colleagues Callie and Anna. If that’s not enough to drive a sane person up the wall, a friend has decided he’s going to keep her safe whether she wants him to or not. And, oh yeah, he’s her man and that’s that.

Come join us at Callie’s Cakes, where murder investigations are on the menu. You are most welcome, but you may need to serve yourself as our barista Kristie is busy trying to save the world.

Warning: Although there are plenty of moments that will make you shake your head and laugh at the antics of the ladies of Callie’s Cakes, the subject matter – rape on college campuses – is very real and somewhat darker than your usual cozy mystery.

Author Spotlight – Mary Ann Edwards

Mary Anne EdwardsWelcome!

Please introduce yourself.

Hello! I’m Mary Anne Edwards, author of the Charlie McClung Mysteries, traditional mysteries with a touch of romance. I live in Georgia with my husband of 35+ years and a Tuxedo cat named Gertrude. I can thankfully say that I am a breast cancer survivor.

When did you start writing?

I think at birth. LOL! Seriously, my mother was a very creative woman, painting, writing, gardening, crafts, and the list goes on. My mother taught me the love of the written word. She had tons of books in a sorts of genres. So it was natural for me to pick up a pen and write. I started writing poetry, then short stories, and that lead to writing novels.

What motivates you to write?

My readers are my main motivation. They want more and I want to make them happy. I have all these ideas that are screaming at me to make them into a book.

What genre do you write in and what made you chose this particular genre?

I’ve always loved a good mystery. So I write what I love, traditional mysteries with a bit of romance.

What is your goal in writing? Do you have dreams where your writing should take you?

Right now, my goal is to continue with the Charlie McClung Mysteries. I’ve published three in the series, Brilliant Disguise, A Good Girl, and Criminal Kind. The fourth book, Sins of My Youth, will be released in May. I have six more storylines to developed in the series and hopefully there will be many more. My ultimate dream is to see Charlie McClung on the big screen or in a weekly series.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block and if yes, how do you deal with it?

Not really writer’s block. I get, I didn’t see that coming! Time for a rethink. I write a very loose outline for each book, but my characters always decide to go in another direction. Which means I have to change the outline. So I may get stuck for a couple of hours or a day. The shower is a great place for me to think. And of course, as soon as my head hits the pillow, my mind begins to spins with ideas and dialogue.

What advice would you like to give new, hopeful authors?

Start networking now! Yes, before your book is published. Get a website and all of your social media in place. Talk up your manuscript. Find a good graphic designer and editor. Once your manuscript is finished, you’re good to go.

Please, tell us about your work.

The Charlie McClung Mysteries are traditional mysteries. Think of Caroline Graham, Agatha Christie or Elizabeth Peters that’s my style of writing. The stories are set in a small town in Georgia during the early 1980s. And my two main characters are in their 40s. I do a lot of research to make my stories believable. I have some awesome professionals I partner with, a forensic pathologist, retired chief of police, a doctor specializing in poisons, a FBI agent, just to name a few. My characters are Frankenstein-like. I take pieces of personalities, mannerisms, and quirks from people that I know and add in my warped imagination to create my characters. I want my readers to say, “Hey! I know that guy.” I want my readers to hate the villains and to want the good guys to be their friends. My books are a balanced mesh of mystery, suspense, romance, and foodie.

Thank you for being my guest. It was such a pleasure to have you here!!

Thank you for this opportunity for me to introduce my books to your fans. The pleasure was truly all mine. Thank you, again.
