Just in Time for Halloween – Written By Cary Vaughn

The writer of ‘The Reluctant Cat Owner’s Journal,’ Cary Vaughn, has published a blog post I could not deprive you of enjoying. The author is, of course, a cat daddy and also an unbelievably gifted writer. No matter what the situation with the cats is, Cary masters it, writers about it, and makes his devoted fans (like me) laugh. Thanks so much for this wonderful post, Cary. And speedy recovery to the kitty!

As I’ve mentioned before, Predator Face has a habit of sneezing phlegm onto our walls and floor since the day of his adoption. In my opinion, this has made housekeeping more laborious than necessary.

As I’ve also mentioned before, Predator Face recently lost the ability to breath through his nose, making him sound like a snotty, mouth-breathing toddler with the flu. Not, stertorous. More slurpy, like breathing through a mouthful of gelatin.

At first, his condition was pathetic and sad. But it didn’t take long before the slurpy mouth breathing became a nuisance. For example, I no longer woke in the middle of the night to the adorable rumbling of his purr as he nudged me for attention.

Winter Is Approaching

The air is cold, the trees are naked, people run around and sneeze

the ground is hard, the leaves are fallen, the wind howls worse than just a breeze.

After autumn coolness, wet streets common. skies a leaden gray they are

We feel the fourth season fast approaching, winter isn’t anymore that far.

**

The only thing we are awaiting, is the white, we want it swift,

soft white flakes that cover brown ground, a blanket, like a gift.

Some time far away, in past and future, spring was and will be, that we know

but at this moment what we wish for, is our long awaited snow.

**

Christmas time is around the corner, we’re looking forward to the Holiday,

but part of it is winter snow in which we all just love the play.

Please, clouds, give us the snowflakes we’re long already waiting for

allow the clouds to cover nature, ground, and plants, and so much more.

**

Nature, it will go to sleep, during winter, the cold and freezing time

while snow will cover, all year’s leftovers, the dirt, the wet and also grime.

In spring the world will be awaking, prepared to grow to play and toy

but when there’s snow in winter, there’s no reason, why we cannot enjoy.

**

Enjoy the cold and play the snow, go to sled, to ski, go skate the ice,

accept the moment, be yourself, winter will be over in just a trice.

Live in the here and in the present, build a snowman on your lawn

In a handful moments you’ll think back and today’s winter will be gone.

Winter Wonderland – Finally

It was Christmas, three weeks ago,

the grass was green, there was no snow.

The skies were blue, it was too warm

Green Christmas? Here? This needs alarm.

**

New Year came -no flakes in sight

The sun had fun, the sky was bright.

But unexpected, it took us off guard

we woke up to a white yard.

**

Even though it’s freezing cold

I still will say – and I am bold

Sometimes I like the soft white mass

It can be fun – and it’s got class.

**

Snowy bushes and white trees

are surrounding the lake that will go freeze.

In such a time I love a forest walk

watch the squirrel, the deer, the owl and hawk.

**

Each snowflake is unique in art

a piece of glass and a piece of heart.

A fleeting existence and still so real

a wonder of nature, that’s how I feel.

**

On rare days I see romance be built

by the tiniest crystals, and still, there’s no guilt,

knowing that the picture is soon to be gone

We know it’ll be back, will soon be re-drawn.

**

Enjoy the little miracle that’s natures gift

when everything changes, from old to new shift.

Life circles, we know it, and it shows us first hand

This short lived but beautiful Winter Wonderland.

Thoughts on Fall

A time to start and a time to end

A time to break and a time to mend.

There’s so much that’s old and less is new

there’s still some warmth but cold it’s too.

**

Fall is time for plans and range

it’s time to prepare and time to change.

Switch the summer for the winter

that’s the season of the ‘tinter’.

**

Watch how nature does its share

new colors, new smiles and new clothes to wear!

Instead of pink and blue and green

we’ve got yellow, burgundy and ‘coffee-bean’.

**

Orange, brown and terracotta red,

leaves are falling, trees will shed.

Pumpkin season is ready to come,

We drink eggnog, warm chocolate and tea with rum.

**

Flames are dancing in the fireplace,

cold wind is leaving red spots in our face.

Fog is covering the brownish ground

Sharp wind around the house is normal sound.

**

And still it’s a wonderful homey season

in our house for more than one reason.

The world is enchanted by a special glow,

Just before the world will be covered in powdery snow.

**

There’s so much more to be said to third time of year

There’s so much to look forward to and nothing to fear.

Not even when ghosts, witches and vampires will mime,

Enjoy Halloween before Christmas time.
