The day is hot, the air to shimmer

Rocks ‘n ground and water simmer.

The crop in fields it’s standing high

wheat and corn and also rye.

**

The sun is burning pretty strong

And even though we get along

Still the burning heat I flee

Seek shelter under one wide tree.

**

Life is nourished by the sun

Nature grows, it’s always done.

Especially during summertime

It feels harmonic and to chime

**

Birds and animals, they grow

In fall they’re gone, as we all know.

Time it moves, all seasons do

We all are caught within this queue.

**

The constant circle of all life

It shows itself within this strive.

A time to come and one to end

We do improve – and always mend.

An Often Overlooked Little Buddy – A Riddle

*****

He’s an unremarkable little friend,

In his habitat the perfect blend.

He can’t sing or dance and is no star,

He loves to eat, to fly and also spar.

**

He camouflashes perfectly well

With his surroundings, let me tell.

And still, there’s something very cute

about him, he’s a hoot.

**

He exists in all color ranges

Grey and black and brown, it changes!

He eats insects but mostly does he seeds

He’s funny and busy when he feeds.

**

Hundreds of species of all his kind

populate the Earth – and I don’t mind.

He’s useful and I don’t understand

why from many backyards he is banned.

**

He hops where others proudly walk

He complains where others discretely talk.

He’s got two legs, a beak and a pair of wings

He’s tiny, but the air his in all seasons, particular springs.

**

He uses nests and houses to feed his brood

He’s loud, annoying and sometimes rude.

He stays in trees, his spots are narrow,

You might have guessed: It is the sparrow!

Winter wonderland

Fall storms are over, the air is like lead,

cool is the wind blowing around the head.

Over night snowflakes are falling to the ground,

secretly and without the slightest sound.

**

Beautiful snow gives a new season birth

by coating with white the cooled down Earth.

People start using a much quicker pace

leaving the white covered ground with their trace.

**

Mountains and hills are sugared in white

with only the moonshine it still looks like light.

Children love snow and run for their sled

as soon as in the morning they’re out of bed.

**

Racing downhills with friends is much fun,

then discussing who lost and who won.

Some warm chocolate from Mom at return to the house,

It’s time now to wait for Santa Clause.

**

Christmas gets closer, excitement is high,

until then, snow and cold will come by.

People wear scarfs and gloves on their hand,

to gaze in amazement at this winter wonderland.
