Jack-o-Legend written by Jimmie Verte

Once upon a time,

A nasty, greedy rummy,

A Regretting daredevil

For Eternity

As drunkard as foxy,

Jack was in a bar and

Jostled the wicked one

This has been his mistake,

How this will never end,

The serpent approached him

Proposed fiendish favors

Against this blacksmith soul,

About to succumb,

Before following him,

He asked for a last glass,

The devil granted him.

Stingy Jack made

Leviathan turns into coins

To pay the Tavernier

Although he kept them with

A cross in his pocket,

He possessed him on hand.

He used his position

For a proposition:

Return to his freedom,

A decade in exchange

After the acceptance

Jack released Lucifer

Ten years later,

Leviathan made his return

To take Jack away to hell

The man approved then

Pointed out a fruit tree

For the inferno guard

To bring him an apple

Satan climbed to the leaves,

Jack engraved with a knife

A cross in the tree bark

“Never take me to hell”

The devil granted him.

Once Jack’s life had ended

In the purgatory

Neither heaven nor hell

Opened to the sinner,

Neither Satan nor Saint Peter

Let Jack enter.

From this moment on

The Blue Marble was his cell,

Burning coal in a turnip,

Jack roamed through the night

Next Halloween,

You are going to remember,

Candles in your pumpkins,

Candies in your pockets,

This Irish legend, friend

Of Jack of the Lantern.

Poem written by Annette Rochelle Aben

It comes upon us, fast and furious, this spooky time, some take so serious.
When trees become hallowed places for bats and ghosts and body-less faces.
Of course, there are those who would have you believe that this special day is one they could take or leave.
That may be all fine and dandy but no matter what, they’ll show up for the free candy. So be sure to carve an extra gourd or two and put a few slimy toad stools in a witch’s shoe.
Leave the candles burning well to ward off the fright of this once-a-year, my goodness, vampires are near…  Halloween night!

Thank you, all poets for your participation.

Stay tuned!! The Jury is going to decide very soon who the three winners are!!

Love And Hate

Imagine there’s wonderful love in your life,

All of a sudden it turns into strife.

Future, perspective, all of it gone

And you’ve got no idea what you have done.

*

You start learning, what you had was but lies

and love, hope and memories, it all dies.

Life seems a blur and you’re walking through hell

And all there’s left is an empty shell.

*

This was the man who asked you for your hand

he wanted to marry you he said; a future on sand…

You fly across the world, wearing bubble pink specs

while all he ever wanted was sex.

*

To the same time, and that really makes you sick

he tells you again, if he could, you were the one he would pick!

The man is a liar, a sociopath of worst sort

And here you realize what he did was just tort!

*

Confidence, trust and beauty are void

All emotions in you are badly destroyed.

All he’s ever done was lie and screw

Shadows creep out of the darkness in you.

*

Anger and rage concentrate in your heart

tearing all emotions inside you apart.

You feel used, humiliated, hurt to be told of

him spreading word it was a “one-sided” love.

*

An emotion of darkness and terrible black,

crawls up in you, spreads out on skin and back.

You try to identify it, simply and clear

it’s neither pain, nor anger, nor is it fear.

*

It’s darker, it’s blacker, it’s shadow land.

You can’t control it, it gets out of hand.

Then you identify it, almost too late

what you’re feeling now is purest hate.

*

Ask yourself now, will I permit

that hatred will take over my whit?

That no matter what he’s done wrong…

is he really worth an emotion this strong?

*

Won’t it be better to keep my heart clear

of an emotion this poisonous and queer?

Probably yes, is the answer I trench

And still my inside wants revenge!

*

Thank God – I’m a writer… is all I can think

in my book I can make his testicles shrink,

I can shoot, drown and hang him, I know it’s quite tough!

My pen will avenge me – that will be enough.

A very special water drop

***************************************************************************************************

Among humankind there’s one thing rife

It’s given to all, it’s hard – and it’s ‘life’.

Some, they say: “Do best you can”.

And others state: “Follow your plan.”

**

The most important thing for us

more than food, embrace or a buss

is liquid, clear, without a taste

We need to drink, to wash and not to waste.

**

It’s valuable, nothing we can miss

It’s life, it’s blood, it’s more than bliss.

Easy to guess what I talk about

Of course it’s water, there’s no doubt.

**

It’s found in springs, in ponds, in lakes,

It’s hidden in rain and in snowflakes.

But there is much more and that is rare

The drops we hold or so we dare.

**

Humor, it can make us laugh

when we tease and when we chaff.

Holding our belly, unable to quit

and roar with laughter at a wit.

**

That’s one moment we produce

that amount of water, a priceless juice.

It’s rare and still it is unique

when it leaves the eye runs down our cheek.

**

Even more invaluable is the other sort,

caused by pain, by fear or even tort.

To hurt someone no matter who

is cruel and mean – we know that’s true!

**

That water drop which caused by pain

is all the worse when shed in vain.

No diamond on Earth will be able to pay

for this one drop shed that one day.

**

It’s hope that dies and confidence

it’s joy been killed by no more chance.

Emotion directed by grief and fear,

and loss that caused this…

… one…

… sad…

tear.

Thoughts on Fall

A time to start and a time to end

A time to break and a time to mend.

There’s so much that’s old and less is new

there’s still some warmth but cold it’s too.

**

Fall is time for plans and range

it’s time to prepare and time to change.

Switch the summer for the winter

that’s the season of the ‘tinter’.

**

Watch how nature does its share

new colors, new smiles and new clothes to wear!

Instead of pink and blue and green

we’ve got yellow, burgundy and ‘coffee-bean’.

**

Orange, brown and terracotta red,

leaves are falling, trees will shed.

Pumpkin season is ready to come,

We drink eggnog, warm chocolate and tea with rum.

**

Flames are dancing in the fireplace,

cold wind is leaving red spots in our face.

Fog is covering the brownish ground

Sharp wind around the house is normal sound.

**

And still it’s a wonderful homey season

in our house for more than one reason.

The world is enchanted by a special glow,

Just before the world will be covered in powdery snow.

**

There’s so much more to be said to third time of year

There’s so much to look forward to and nothing to fear.

Not even when ghosts, witches and vampires will mime,

Enjoy Halloween before Christmas time.
