Soul Taker Secrets – An Angelic Dish

Katie and her consort-sisters grew. They developed as a group, as a family, as strong independent powerful women.

While in the beginning, the ‘Council of Twelve’ mainly was that, a ‘council,’ the members of ‘the brotherhood’ how they called it, merely met when they had a problem to solve, work out together, regroup the troops, or some other business challenge coming up. Rarely did they meet just for fun. Of course, when you’re a brotherhood of a dozen enormously strong creatures working together, you start knowing each other. However, they barely met anywhere else than in the Great Hall, the arena, or a battlefield.

Once Katie and Raphael fell in love, the entire Council met for dinner once a month in their house. Katie was known as one of the most incapable chefs of all times, but not even one council member had the heart (or the guts) to tell her that. She knew she wasn’t that good a cook and got herself help and support. But she constantly learned. Not even Sundance could help much. Sundance was a warrior and usually ate either in the warrior common dining hall or cooked for herself. Her kitchen knowledge was limited to mostly oatmeal, coffee, or cereal.

With Zepheira and Simin, two more consorts showed up, and their knowledge and willingness to learn made the monthly meetings much more enjoyable.

The longer the consorts knew each other, the closer their connection was. They started to open up to all council members. Even though they seemed intimidating at first, the consorts included them in their circles, and the ‘brotherhood’ slowly turned into a family—a family who deeply cared for each other. The Great Hall was not only for the Council Meetings anymore, but the consorts often gathered there with the council members to support a crisis.

In an earlier blog post, we learned about the favorite ‘Council of Twelve’ dessert.

Today we find out that the Great Hall does have a small kitchen attached. In case of a crisis, it was much easier to whip something up right there than cooking in one of the houses and carrying the food for sixteen people over.

They stocked the kitchen with long-lasting nutrition, such as cereal, the ingredients for oatmeal, coffee, tea, dried ice tea concentrate, rice, dried mushrooms, raisins, nuts,  cinnamon, pasta, and vegetable and fruit cans.

Our consorts found out pretty quickly that it was easy to ‘whip up’ some oatmeal and that all council members loved it. Occasionally, if there was plenty of time, one of the consorts decided to get some fresh fruit to pimp it up a bit.

Let’s see how Katie’s basic oatmeal recipe looks like.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (such as Quaker Oats Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Desired toppings (such as sliced almonds, peanut butter, or fresh fruit)

How to Make It

Step 1

Combine oats, milk, water, salt, and cinnamon in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.

Step 2

Simmer uncovered for 3 to 5 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3

Divide equally between two bowls. Drizzle each serving with 1/2 teaspoon honey. Add additional desired toppings and serve.

Chef’s Notes

For dairy-free oatmeal, substitute your favorite nut milk.

The Council Of Twelve Series – Picking Fashion For My Female Characters I

Today I decided to dress my ladies.

The Council of Twelve series has four books out now. And my female characters are three wonderful, beautiful, and completely different ladies. The ones of you who have read the books know what I’m talking about. Now, in all of my books, the characters’ wardrobe is playing only a minor role. None of my characters has an extended closet and mainly dresses for work or dresses up for a formal occasion.

Naturally, the characters have different tastes and styles to dress. Of course, we cannot forget Teddy, but if you would like to know who that is, please read the books, Teddy is hard to describe, and it certainly needs more than only one paragraph.

Let’s have a look at Katie. She’s a Guardian and therefore can relax a bit in the way she dresses. She tells herself she mainly likes to be comfortable, and those are two of her favorite outfits.

For a formal occasion, Katie can dress up in an official robe and look stunning in this turquoise gown:

Sundance is an essential leading character in ‘The Council of Twelve’ series. Even though as young as she is, she is an exceptional warrior and therefore dressed accordingly. (Most of the time).

As a protege of the ‘Council’ members and, in particular, the Council leader, she already has official tasks and duties to fulfill, and a formal dress for her can look like this:

The consort in book three, Demon Tracker, is Zepheira. Her unusual looks, her horns, her unique character and behavior, and her extraordinary abilities make her one of my many reader’s favorite characters in the books. She permits herself to dress in an extravagant style and can easily allow herself that freedom.

But even to Zye, how she’s called by her friends and family, formal means formal, and her consort insist on the traditional way in such a case. That doesn’t mean Zepheira always follows all the rules. A tiny sexy detail would be just like her… Dressed for an official occasion for Zepheira could look like that:

Authors: Do you dress your characters in your books? Is the outfit for you important, and do you spend pages describing it? Do you imagine how your characters look and are dressed? Let me hear it.

Readers: Do you want to read about the outfits your characters are wearing? Or is it sometimes too much for you?

I’d be happy to read your comments.

Cover Reveal Bounty Hunter – 4th Book Of The Council Of Twelve Series

For the fourth time now, I’m thrilled. Singing and dancing through the day, I invite you to celebrate with me. I want to share with you the cover of my new book

BOUNTY HUNTER

releasing March 13, 2021, on Amazon and Smashwords.

This new book introduces us to Simin Arnatt, a famous Bounty Hunter, mainly for supernatural creatures. Simin would have preferred to be less famous, but the quality of her work speaks for itself. Unexpectedly while being on the job, she meets Archangel Centriel in a forest clearing in the mountains. She doesn’t know how this encounter will change her life and future within the shortest time.

Holding a secret for her entire life, she wishes she could share it with someone. But had she been a hunter before, now she becomes a target.

I’m grateful that once again, my cover was designed by the wonderful Kathryn Jenkins of KJ Magical Designs :

The cover shows Simin Arnatt in a highly alert pose, holding her crossbow, her trademark in her right hand. Her looks are unusual. Her almost white hair, darker skin, and yellow eyes hint at the secret she has locked deeply into her heart. She wears her hunter outfit and is clearly on her job in the mountain forest, which the background shows.

Half visible, well covered by nature, we can see Centriel, the Archangel with the signature light blue wings, he holds spread, as if he was prepared to protect her.

The cover seems a bit ‘darker’ than the ones before. But it mirrors exactly the story and the two protagonists.

Once more, I’m enthusiastic about the cover.

Are you ready to see it?

Then scroll…

About the book:

When Centriel roams the Earth in a dark mood and atypical despair, in a mountain clearing, far from humankind, he unexpectedly discovers a runner, followed by a petite hunter. The way the woman treats the giant fugitive amuses the Archangel, but he quickly learns that neither of them are what they seem to be.

Simin Arnatt is an extraordinary woman. Her occupation as a Bounty Hunter takes her all over the world, as she follows her prey to the most unusual places. She would have never expected to meet the famous Centriel while on a hunt. When he offers to help her, she feels the enormous attraction, but she knows, with the secret she holds, she could never dare to hope for love.

Neither of them could guess that with her next assignment, Hell is breaking loose…

My First Published Character Interview – Simin Arnatt

On December 4, 2015, I was introduced on ‘The Story Reading Ape’s blog to be accepted in his ‘Author’s Hall of Fame’. I’m very grateful he did that and accepted several guest posts since that day. TSRA’s post went viral before my first book in the series ‘Soul Taker’ was published. That day I interviewed one of my characters, Simin Arnatt. She is quite an important character in my series, strong, beautiful, a fighter.

Book Four in ‘The Council of Twelve’ series will be Simin’s story. I decided today to re-publish Simin’s interview here below for you to meet her (or meet her again).

Simin isn’t an easy character, independent, proud, unique, difficult to handle at times. Brace yourself for her arrival…

Interview with Simin Arnatt.

Hello, Simin.

I am honored to be permitted to ask you a few questions and that you agreed to let us know you a little better.

You’re welcome. It is nice to be here. Don’t forget to keep your curiosity under control and we’ll get along well.

I understand. Now let’s start with the beginning. You are beautiful, but unusual. Where were you born?

Thank you so much for the compliment. I am in fact born in England. My mother was English, my father, Persian. I got my parents’ looks, equally from both of them. Only that I look like their negative. (She laughs musically) I got my father’s light skin and my mother’s chocolate hair – and nature switched it and made me.

The contrast is unique, in particular with your dark eyes. You are gorgeous. You look like being in your late twenties the most. May I ask how old you are?

Again thank you for all compliments. As for my age: After I reached my biological limit at the age of 22, I haven’t noticed to age significantly. And that was a long, long time ago. My parents passed away, their bodies turned into dust in the meantime. I did not expect to live this long, but that’s how it is. And no, I won’t tell you my actual age. It will, as so many things about me, remain a secret.

What do you do for a living?

I am something like a “bounty hunter”. I search for individuals on order.

That sounds interesting, can you tell us more? For example: Why do you search for these individuals and who gives you the orders?

I’m sorry. It’s my work, and I do guarantee absolute discretion to my customers.

There is something unusual about you. And you mentioned you are much older than I guessed. Are you human?

Not entirely, no.

But you’re not a vampire?

(Laughs out loudly). No, not at all.

What are you if I may ask?

This will remain a secret

Were you born the way you are?

Yes.

Are you the only one of your kind?

I have never met another in my entire existence. But this doesn’t mean there is nobody else. We just might not have met.

What….

STOP IT!! Enough of that. If you don’t have any other questions.

Is there a man in your life?

N…no.

Your answer came out a little hesitating. Are you sure there is nobody?

Yes.

But you are in love?

(Blushes furiously) I don’t talk about that. This goes too far now. Do you have one more question to ask? Otherwise I…

Yes, please. Is there anything you would like to be able to do? A wish, a dream you have?

I sometimes wish I could fly into heaven, spread my wings, fly above the clouds, and end up where all is love and peace. Away from blood, cruelness, injustice and – Heaven… (her eyes are dreamy)

I’m sorry, but this is it. I consider this interview over. It was a pleasure to be here. All the Best and good luck with your book.

Interview With One Of My Characters III

Hello,

Welcome to ‘Writer’s Treasure Chest’. It’s wonderful to have you here.

Thank you, Aurora Jean. I really appreciate the invitation.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

Of course. My name is Mairead McCarthy. I’m originally from Ireland. Currently I’m looking for Simin Arnatt. I have been searching nearly everywhere. But whenever I seem to get closer, she disappears.

I know Simin. Is it important that you’ll find her?

Yes, very much so. I do have an order for her. From what I hear she’s the best in her job.

Oh, she definitely is. But can you tell us what you need her for?

Uhm. I’m not sure I should. Not as publicly as here. However, I need to find her. Can you help me?

Sure. I will give you the phone number of her agency after the interview.

Oh, This is amazing. Thank you.

But, please, tell us more about you. Who are you and what is your occupation?

Oh… I told you, I’m originally from Ireland. I love it there. My home is magical in many ways. As for what I do: I’m a jewelry designer.

I see. And that’s all you do? I mean, you don’t hide anything from us?

(laughs musically). Of course I’m hiding something from you, what do you think? But don’t expect me to blurt it out here in public, I doubt that would be very smart. In particular not, since I need Simin’s help.

Of course. By the way: I’m very intrigued by your name. Does it have a meaning?

Yes. Mairead is the Irish version of Margareth and means ‘pearl’.

Hence, the jewelry designer.

Well, I figured I wanted something to do that fits me. Designing is a passion of mine. For quite a while I used to make my own clothes. But then: everyone is a fashion designer, obviously, even if they haven’t studied design or gotten the right education. You simply have to be some TV starlet and you’re an ‘expert’. That’s mainly why I decided to do something a bit different.

I studied gemology and mineralogy and closed with a degree in design.

Do you design for big houses, like ‘Cartier’ for example?

No, sorry. I run my own business and it’s quite successful. It’s tiny but exclusive and I’m making quite a good living.

This is wonderful to hear. I am as well fascinated by your look. The strawberry blonde hair and the green eyes.

It’s genetic. My mother looks just like me and so do my baby-sisters.

I’m sorry for interrupting. But I’m a bit eager to get Simin on the phone. Can we end this? It’s wonderful that I can be here. But I’m a bit impatient. I was looking for her for quite some time now.

I understand. But may I ask you something before we quit?

Sure, go ahead. What do you want to know?

Are you a creature of light or darkness, normal or supernatural, with or without wings and are you single?

(laughs) I’m definitely a supernatural creature of light. As for the wings: occasionally I have them. As for my marital status: I wonder why you want to know that, but let’s say: being one of ‘us’ means it is quite difficult to be in a relationship. Does that help?

Yes, it does. Thank you very much.

It was my pleasure. Thank you for having me.

What Happens To My Characters I introduced?

So far I introduced three of my characters to the public.

November 13, 2015, a short article on ‘Writer’s Treasure Chest’ was published. It looked like an entry of a demon called ‘Ethel.’ Ethel is hard to describe, very hard. I think it might be a good idea to refresh the memory here.

December 4, 2015, I was introduced to the followers of The Story Reading Ape, and the introduction is still in his “Hall of Fame.” Thank you, Furry Friend. Since I’m not yet published, I decided to interview one of my characters instead: Simin Arnatt, a woman guarding many secrets. If you like, please re-read the interview here.

December 15, 2016, I published an interview with one more of my characters, a shadow named Rapha Golden. It seemed that interview was quite successful. Rapha can charm a woman into ecstasy, I know. Just in case you don’t believe me, check it out here.

I ensure you, none of these characters are wasted or created only for P.R. purposes. They are in fact characters showing up in on of my books. (In my case, novellas).

When I published the interview with Simin Arnatt, I knew she would be one of my protagonists. I did not whatsoever know that the shadow Rapha Golden would become a bigger character than I had expected him to be. They both are currently woven into a story of passion, jealousy, and cruelness and I’m not sure yet how this will end. But I’m soon going to find out.

The big secret is Ethel. I’m currently working on the fourth, the fifth and the sixth novella in the series – and Ethel still hasn’t shown up. I regret this very much, and I hope this character, which I somehow got a liking of, will fit in somewhere soon.

I know, Ethel is my character, my creature, my possession and I could build more strength, but then it wouldn’t be Ethel anymore. Ethel is weak, a bit helpless, a bit evil, a bit of everything – but just “a bit.” Ethel isn’t a protagonist, not the main character. I figure I’ll wait and find out where to create a spot for Ethel.

Have you ever created a character you liked and then found out that you don’t know what to do with this character? Or that the character you created is the worst opponent you could have made and you hate him? Please, let us hear it.
