Free Short Story: Everyone Deserves A Second Chance – Written By Nicholas C. Rossis

Today I discovered a free short story on Nicholas Rossi’s blog. I was fascinated and loved it enormously. I, therefore, hope he’ll permit me to show you a very small part of it – and link you to his page. Enjoy the read.

Waters of Oblivion

While I wait for you, I take in the beach. This is my home. The deep, calm sea—too dark to make out anything but the soothing waves that lap my feet. Dark silhouettes surround me. They would crowd the beach, were it not for its immensity. Old and young, men and women, take slow, dazed steps into the abysmal waters. Guides like me help them in. Not that you need us for this. Ancient, forgotten instincts would drive you forward even if we weren’t there. But we pride ourselves in that special, personal touch.

Smaller, translucent silhouettes come out of the sea, too, like baby turtles going the wrong way. Other guides are there to take them to their new homes. You will be following them in no time.

And now you’re finally here. When I left you at your bedroom after you had swallowed all those pills, I was wondering how long it would take you to join me. Not that time matters. Not here, anyway.

You shudder after the unpleasant experience of going through the death portal. “What… what happened?” you ask.

“You got what you wanted,” I say. “Congratulations. You’re dead.”

My writing progress

From April 24 through May 6 I was spending time in California with a wonderful friend of mine. She is awesome, and I love her! Her backyard is like an ointment for my soul. Sitting there, hearing the soft lapping of the pool water calms me and gives my heart and soul all the relaxation it needs. Occasional squirrels make me smile, and my fantasy has the chance to unfold fully.
Within this paradise, I continued writing my pre-novel novella I had planned to finish.

The moment my pen touched the paper, it wrote, nearly by itself. The story took form, and the protagonists developed. Only a short while upon my return I completed the first draft.
Right now I am typing the novella into the computer and hope it will be completed soon; then I will start my first round of editing.
I’m very excited! I am an author.

A very special water drop

***************************************************************************************************

Among humankind there’s one thing rife

It’s given to all, it’s hard – and it’s ‘life’.

Some, they say: “Do best you can”.

And others state: “Follow your plan.”

**

The most important thing for us

more than food, embrace or a buss

is liquid, clear, without a taste

We need to drink, to wash and not to waste.

**

It’s valuable, nothing we can miss

It’s life, it’s blood, it’s more than bliss.

Easy to guess what I talk about

Of course it’s water, there’s no doubt.

**

It’s found in springs, in ponds, in lakes,

It’s hidden in rain and in snowflakes.

But there is much more and that is rare

The drops we hold or so we dare.

**

Humor, it can make us laugh

when we tease and when we chaff.

Holding our belly, unable to quit

and roar with laughter at a wit.

**

That’s one moment we produce

that amount of water, a priceless juice.

It’s rare and still it is unique

when it leaves the eye runs down our cheek.

**

Even more invaluable is the other sort,

caused by pain, by fear or even tort.

To hurt someone no matter who

is cruel and mean – we know that’s true!

**

That water drop which caused by pain

is all the worse when shed in vain.

No diamond on Earth will be able to pay

for this one drop shed that one day.

**

It’s hope that dies and confidence

it’s joy been killed by no more chance.

Emotion directed by grief and fear,

and loss that caused this…

… one…

… sad…

tear.
