The Council Of Twelve A – Z / K For Kate

When it comes to writing, with six published books and the seventh in the series in line, I sometimes feel a little bit like I need to keep things in my books a secret, fearfully protecting my stories because I could give away too much to the ones who haven’t read ‘The Council of Twelve’ series yet.

But aren’t the background stories, the little details ‘behind the scenes’ the interesting part of our work? There are numerous characters in these books, twelve of them the main pillars carrying my stories.

A few of these main characters found their counterparts and ‘better half’ within the series, and I won’t exclude these strong women from the A-Z introduction to ‘The Council of Twelve.’

That’s why I decided to start a new blog series about the Council of Twelve, going through the alphabet, starting with Anghariel, Benadrel, Centriel, Deonur, Eavan, Gabriel, and today, Kate. Yes, I know, there are a few letters missing. But there is a reason for that. I might not have introduced the respective character to the readers, or there is no character with a particular first-letter name. So, never say never. The series is not completed yet.

Let me show you the notes I took before I started to write ‘The Council of Twelve’ series. On Kate’s character sheet, it says:

Kate is the first consort to appear and makes her ‘debut’ in ‘Soul Taker’, the first book in ‘The Council of Twelve’ series. In this book, she meets her future consort, Archangel Raphael, the Healer and Guardian.

Kate is mostly called ‘Katie’; she’s sweet and family-oriented, but don’t underestimate her. She is also strong, determined, and brave.

Kate insisted on monthly’ family gatherings, ‘ something the Council of Twelve members had never known in that form before.

They knew they had a ‘brotherhood’, but then they discovered that they still had some growing to do as brothers and family members, not only working together but also developing a common feeling of connection and loyalty.

Kate was a huge help in this development and already could register some success when the next consort, Zepheira, arrived. Automatically, the consorts welcome one of their own into the family, and it grows steadily.

Kate, as a ‘Soul Taker’, never had time to learn how to manage a household, sew, enjoy leisure time, or even cook. She was mostly ‘on the road’ or ate with friends in their respective accommodations. Once she got a cookbook into her hands, she was lost. She approached cooking with the same bravery that she managed all her tasks, but the results weren’t any better. Despite the supporters in her house, she didn’t have anyone to show her how it was done. Once Zye arrived, the cooking for the family improved, and every consort had another favorite dish to share with Kate.

Now, Kate is not only Archangel Raphael’s consort but also holds a unique secret, which makes her one of the most valuable assets in the fight ‘Good vs. Evil.’ The other side tries desperately to get her into their hands, but every single Archangel keeps a strict eye on her. She is, after all, of inestimable value.

Kate is not only the center of the ‘Council of Twelve’ family and the initiator of their regular family dinners, she also worries about all Council members, makes sure they’re doing fine, they’re feeling good, and they keep being part of the family.

Archangel Raphael, however, is her consort, and consequently, she is connected to him the closest. That does not mean, she’s willing to duck in front of him, or succumb to every one of his orders. She is a strong, independent angel, and she’s not too shy to tell him off, if she thinks it’s necessary. She’s a consort, a partner, a wife, but she’s also a woman in love.

When she was in an argument with Raphael, Kate once told a friend of hers:

I would recommend reading the Council of Twelve series to learn more about these twelve powerful individuals and their consorts, their stories, and the eternal fight ‘Good vs. Evil.’ You will fall in love with them all, I promise.
