Memorial Day is extravagantly celebrated as a federal holiday in the United States of America. It is observed on the last Monday of May month each year in order to commemorate all those brave men and women who died while serving in the armed force of United States. Memorial Day 2017 is on Monday, 29th of May.
Some Gave All
I knew a man, called him Sandy Cane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero, yes was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don’t understand
About the reasons we are free
I can’t forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cried
As he said these words to me
All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some Gave All
Now Sandy Cane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo throughout our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood their ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man
Love your country and live with pride
And don’t forget those who died
America can’t you see?
All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some Gave All
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Yes recall
Some Gave All
Some Gave All

I’m not an American (British) but abhor war, like most sensible, good folk. I lost a gentle airman of an uncle, aged 22 (his cake iced but uneaten), girl-friend waiting…Just one lost soul in armies of others. “We will learn from our mistakes” sadly are just words, but I salute all who ‘gave.’ A very moving poem..

Thank you for sharing about your uncle, Joy. Yes, too many had to go.
As for what you said “poem”, this is song lyrics, performed by Billy Ray Cyrus. One I think fits at this point. You can listen to the song below the lyrics.

A beautiful tribute. So many gave their young lives with never a chance to grow old. Their spirits linger in this America this Free America. We will never forget them…..ever.

So many gone – and one entire Nation is grieving. I’m grateful for their service. Each one of them.

What a fantastic, heartrending poem on this Memorial Day. Words cannot truly convey our losses but if they could this poem does.

Thank you Micki. Even though this isn’t a poem. It’s the lyrics to a Billy Ray Cyrus song.

It’s okay, really. I just don’t want to adorn myself with borrowed plumes. 🙂
